I’m Kristen Kellar, artist and muralist of Kristen Kellar Studio. Short intro: I make art and paint murals. But of course, there’s always more to the story.
Over the past few months, I’ve started following the Substacks of a few artists and have loved getting to know them through their words, inspiration, favorite things, studio processes, and random tidbits. It’s made me realize how much I value the who and the why behind their work and has been the little nudge I’ve needed to start sharing here as well.
This Substack is going to be the place where I’ll share the things that are inspiring me; anything from beautiful color palettes, interesting floral arrangements, beautiful home interiors, or even just the random thing I’ve been enjoying or thinking about lately. Together, we’ll see how these things end up making their way onto a canvas. I guess it’ll be a studio journal, of sorts. My hope is that you’ll get a thoughtful look into all the little things that bring me back to my studio each day to do what I love and to then share those bits of joy with you.
Some of my favorite things lately:
I’m a big Leanne Ford fan and just finished reading her new book. I loved literally every single page. I wanna be her when I grow up, haha.
Just for fun, I started crocheting again! I made a Sophie scarf first. (This tutorial was really helpful and easy to follow.) Anddd now I wanna make one in every color...
Speaking of which, my current wish list item is yarn from Knitting for Olive. Their colors are all so pretty!
It finally started feeling like Spring here in Ohio this week. So, I opened up my studio window, broke out my current favorite spring candle and picked up a couple of hellebore plants from Trader Joe’s!
Lastly, this quote: “I’m not looking for perfect. I’m looking for special.” It’s probably gonna end up in a frame in my studio very soon.
Thanks for being here, talk soon!
